s3rius had an idea to revamp this challenge. Will update in the future. The current challenge is still legit if you find enough generals to play.

I had an idea earlier today. Here is how it is gonna work: There will be a dotd game with all generals in the game. The last general alive will be promoted to GotA on gimli-bot and will be greeted accordingly. The winning general will remain GotA until a new general is appointed. The current GotA does not have to be present to defend the position. Here are the rules:

1. There must be at least five players in one game
   
2. EVERY player must be BG or higher
   
3. The winner is the last solider alive
   
4. If you are incapacitated at any point during the match you are disqualified
   
5. Game difficulty must be Nightmare, and the second mission must be completely finished before a winner can be declared
   
6. Last man standing status must be obtained through "normal" means

Anyway, I'll contact Spinne and Dragonfire (if he doesn't read it here anyway) and notify them of the challenge. Maybe they want to partake.

Sooo.. the way I got it now is that every player is supposed to play alone on NM or Hell and see how far he comes? Or do all have to play together?

perhaps you needed to read the rule where their must be at least 5 people in the match for it to count. There is a special rank for the enlisted, I think it is Sergeant Major of the Army. A rank I don't have installed on the bot.

And even if your not a general rank yet, this is hardly a one time thing. Any time their is an official Generals match, I will update the rank.

Well, it only says that there must be 5 players. It's not specified whether there need to be 5 players in ONE game or 5 participiants in total - that's why I was asking.

The reason I am a bit sceptic about a group game is the competition.. DotD is meant as a group game where all players are either winners or losers. Now that there can only be one winner the participiants might change their way of playing, acting more selfishly, keeping important supplies to themselves, denying covering fire - Whereas these things are exactly what should make a good General.
Heck, you could even TK others (unless that violates rule #8 ).
Imo it's going to be a very arkward game when helping your team equals helping your enemy.

Also.. try getting 5+ Generals together at some point, everyone having sufficient free time and magically no disconnects.

I do recognize that it would not be a "normal" game, but just think that there won't exactly be a lot of these games going on. In fact I imagine there would be very few.

In either case, people that actually actively play your map really liked my idea so I am reluctant not to follow through.

Yea, um, you guys might not be aware. But I've been on for 72 hours straight playing dotd. I'm now a General, meaning I'm allowed to participate. No need to verify what I say.

well we had the first trial run of General's Honor the other night, I have updated the rules and now think that the next match will be official.

If you have a match without me, just send me the replay so I can verify the rules were followed. good luck to all the generals out there ^^
